LEED New Construction & Retrofits

TAS designs, manufactures, installs / commissions and services commercial facility comfort cooling, heating and on-site power systems.  TAS has one commercial facility (healthcare) certified as LEED Platinum and a second LEED Platinum facility (mission critical) under construction.  LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. Platinum is the highest LEED designation that a facility can achieve.  Platinum status requires achieving 52 - 69 points in a scoring system comprised of five environmental categories: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources and indoor air quality.  As a rating system, LEED was designed for new construction and renovation for buildings with the intent of guiding and distinguishing high performance buildings that have less of an impact on the environment and are healthier for those who work/live in the building.

The Dell Children's Medical Center (Austin, Texas) is the first LEED Platinum healthcare facility in the world.  At 170 beds, the Dell facility will be served by a 4.3 MW combustion turbine generator, which will recycle waste heat to produce 22,000 lbs/hr of steam for hospital process loads and 900 tons of chilled water from a steam absorption chiller.  The plant also includes a 1,500 ton modular electrical centrifugal chiller plant, a 20,000 lb/hr boiler plant and a 1,500 kW diesel emergency engine generator.  TAS' scope in the project included the modular chilling system and the clean heat and power (CHP) system, which was application engineered to Dell's thermal energy requirements.
